Saturday Night Live made it official. Covid is cancelled. You didn’t come to this well-worded blog post to harp on the past 24+ months. I’m really pumped to have people in our taprooms again and can’t wait for a Spring and Summer full of everything that Denver Beer Co is all about: Community, Gathering, Adventure, and Fun. I’m writing this post as a time capsule so we can look back at how we were able to make it through a pandemic, and how we were able to engage with our guests and our team through it all with classic buzzwords: Agility, Pivoting, Team Effort and Zoom. Here’s a look back at some of our favorite specialty beers and Crowlers we released during Covid…
AK’s Notes: Ahhhh…the 90s! One of my favorite beers of all-time and a cult-classic when we released it. Hubbabubbalicious was a crowler we first designed and beer we brewed in 2019, but we had to bring it back during the lockdown. Stay tuned for a special release in 2022.
Beer Description: This kettle sour was fermented with watermelon for an interesting fruit/sour combo. Finishing dry, it’s super thirst quenching and slightly reminds you of your favorite childhood chewing experience.
AK’s Notes: Along with all the other 9 year-olds out there during Covid, we were very bummed we couldn’t throw our usual big blowout party and invite all our friends. We had a week long socially distanced party for our 9th anniversary. For our taproom guests, I had the idea of frosting the rim of our Birthday Cake Blonde glasses with frosting and sprinkles. It was a giant pain in the ass for our beertenders, I think I owe them all a beer!
Beer Description: This sweet delicious blonde ale was brewed to celebrate Denver Beer Co’s 9th Anniversary! Flavors of happiness and cheer dominate with delicate aromas of celebration and a hint of clapping and blowing out the candles. Thank you Denver for your unwavering support through our first 9 years. Cheers to you!
AK’s Notes: It’s important to know what’s going on in the world. Sometimes we have to take a stand, you can’t always “stick to beer.” And, then other times, a fly lands on Mike Pence’s head during a debate. I turned this Crowler design around the next day. I love this graphic. Beer is fun.
Beer Description: In honor of one of 2020’s great heroes, the infamous Debate Fly, we’ve created a super limited edition FLY.P.A. Much like this little guy brought smiles and laughter to a particularly bleak year, we hope our FLY.P.A. brings you a moment of joy. This easy drinking IPA is made with munich and caramel malts and is hopped with Cascade, Citra and Mosaic hops. It features a crisp and refreshing hop flavor and is, dare we say, pretty fly (for an IPA).
AK’s Notes: It was Covid, and we all needed glitter. I was told “AK, stop asking for glitter in things,” but this one was especially fun for a new years release. 8pm was the new midnight with restrictions, and we all said “Thank U, Next.” to 2020. Sometimes we all need a fresh start. And glitter beer. Lots of glitter beer. ⠀
Beer Description: This fun twist on our favorite Princess Yum combines the classic flavor combination of Raspberries with Chocolate. Brewed with 16 pounds per barrel of Raspberries and aged on multiple varieties of chocolate for a silky smooth chocolaty finish. This edition feature edible party glitter for extra cheer to ring in the new year!⠀
AK’s Notes: I’m super proud to be part of a company that is forward-thinking and proactive about climate change. 93 hoppy trees is the number of trees saved brewing this small batch beer using brand new CO2 Recapture Technology by Earthly Labs.

As seen in the Washington Post: https://www.instagram.com/p/B9SoFmFp-nm/
Beer Description: Featuring a dank and fruity hop profile from the use of Cashmere and Millennium hops, 93 Hoppy Trees was brewed to celebrate the first ever CO2 exchange program between a craft brewery and marijuana grow. 93 Hoppy Trees honors the partnership between Denver Beer Co, Earthly Labs and The Clinic, whereby excess CO2 produced during the brewing process at Denver Beer Co. was captured using technology from Earthly Labs, and then recycled by The Clinic to stimulate plant growth. Throughout the CO2 capture process, Denver Beer Co saved the equivalent of 93 trees by capturing and recycling excess CO2. Let’s raise a glass to a greener planet.
AK’s Notes: This was a moment in time that will always have some nostalgia. That 8 O’Clock Howl event was a special Colorado thing. Did you hear it in your neighborhood? We called this a “We Got This American Pilsner.” I might have been delirious when I was designing this psychadelic label, but I think it holds up.

Beer Description: Bring it all out and let it loose! This American Style Pils was brewed with pilsner malt and a touch of vienna malt for a clean and crisp malt profile. Hopped exclusively with Ariana hops for a subtle pear and berry like hop profile. Everyone’s got a reason. Although we may be physically apart, we are all in this together!
AK’s Notes: Dang, I love this beer and I love this campaign. I designed this label to reflect the Denver flag. Everyone recreates the Colorado flag (including me) but I think the Denver flag is underrated. We love this city. Find this beer again in a special release in cans this year.
Beer Description: We raise our glasses in support of the LGBTQ+ community near and far with our refreshing new release: Berry Proud Sour Ale. Now available at our taprooms with limited edition crowlers and on draft. 15% of sales of every Berry Proud pint, 32 Oz. Crowler, and Denver Beer Co. Pride merchandise during June will go directly to @onecolorado, the state’s leading advocacy organization dedicated to advancing equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) Coloradans and their families. Berry Proud is a refreshing fruity kettle sour brewed in honor of #Pride Month! Cranberries and raspberries were added during fermentation for a berry duo that is both flavorful and fun. #BeDenverProud
AK’s Notes: Colorado Champions was a great partnership with Austin Zucchini Fowler who got a ton of awesome well-deserved attention during COVID creating murals celebrating frontline workers. We were lucky to connect, drink some virtual beers, design this label and also create a new mural on Cerveceria Colorado. This beer provided a few meals for some frontline workers during tough times and I’m proud of that.
Check out one of the many Virtual Happy Hours we enjoyed during quarantine featuring Austin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6aZDvlrZIw
Beer Description: This refreshing lager was brewed to honor all those who have worked long hours and have taken great risks to battle COVID-19. Crisp and refreshing with a twist of lime, a tribute to those who have stayed cool as a cucumber under the immense pressure of working in difficult conditions. This label features artwork by local Denver muralist Austin Zucchini Fowler. 20% of the Crowler sales will go to Frontline Foods Denver to support Frontline workers. We raise a glass of Colorado Champions to you all!
AK’s Notes: The name for “Zoom Casual” came to me during a zoom call. And the rest is history. I don’t have the full list of brainstorm names, but another one was “Take Your Pants Off.” We were all Zoom Casual for quite awhile, including Zoom, the company, who bought a ton of these crowlers.

Beer Description: This easy drinking laid back IPA is hopped with Citra, Mosaic, and Cascade hops for a delightful hop flavor and low bitterness. A touch of munich and caramel malts lends a complex but mild malt profile and lets the citrus and tropical hop flavors shine. Pants optional.
AK’s Notes: This is another moment in time that we will always remember and associate with Covid as we all binged Joe Exotic on Netflix. Our head brewer Jason Buehler sent me this blended image of Joe Exotic and Donald. He came up with this concept and it broke the COVID internet. We distributed approximately 10,000 of these Crowlers during Covid.
Beer Description: This blonde ale was brewed to be great again with fresh mango and peach for an unbelievably fruity wonderland of exotic flavors. Hopped with Cascade and Mosaic to add some tropical fruit notes to accent the peach and mango flavors, as you dive into it each sip becomes more jaw dropping than the last. Crisp and refreshing with a dry finish and more questions than answers.
Some of most fun and unique beers we brewed up during Covid were for our weekend take-home brunch packs.
